India recorded 18,711 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day tally since January 6, according to data released by the union health ministry on Sunday.
With this, the overall tally in India reached 11,210,799. The count of active cases went up to 4,219 in 24 hours.
India also recorded 100 fresh fatalities in 24 hours which now takes the death toll to 1,57,756. Reports say India registered a 59-day high with this latest spike. Maharashtra, for the second day in a row, registered more than 10,000 cases.
India’s average number of cases has been rising uninterruptedly since February 14, reflecting a resurgence of the pandemic in several states after five months of overall decline at the national level.
