Mexico received a shipment of 8,70,000 doses of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine from India on Sunday, the government said.
Sunday’s shipment amounts to about 42 per cent of the two million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, developed by Oxford University, that Mexico plans to import from India, the government further said.
Mexico is also expecting shipments to resume of vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech, with close to 5 lakh doses due to arrive on Tuesday, its govt said on Sunday.
Mexico started vaccinating healthcare workers in December but struggled to meet the set targets due to global shortages and delays of Pfizer’s vaccine. Further, in the next phase of its vaccination campaign, Mexico prepares to prioritize older adults.
