This photograph, of a nurse cradling three newborn babies as an explosion rocked Beirut on Tuesday, is a symbol of hope and resilience. Captured by photo journalist Bilal Marie Jawish at the Al Roum Hospital which was hit by the blast, it showed a sense of calm amid all the storm just a metre away. The nurse is seen standing attending to a phone call. According to a CNN report, the nurse was able to save the children and their mothers, who have been shifted to other hospitals. The disaster damaged 80% of the hospital and killed 18 people there.
