The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Puducherry.
Polls are to be held for 294 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 126 seats in Assam, and 30 seats in Puducherry.
Elections in West Bengal will be held in 8 phases, starting from March 27 to April 29. In Assam, elections will be held in three phases, starting from March 27 to April 6.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry will see single-phase polls. Counting for polls in four states and Puducherry will be held on May 2.
This is the first major set of elections to be held in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic after the Bihar election. The poll panel has said that the safety of voters will be of utmost priority.
