Huawei launches 5G in Russia after US ban

Sep 29, 2019 15:41 IST

Huawei has opened its first 5G test zone in Russia with an aim to roll out the service to all its main cities by 2024. Huawei's move in partnership with Russian operator, MTS, comes at a time when the United States has banned the technology firm for alleged espionage and has asked its allies to do the same. According to analysts, Russia's development is seen as solidarity to Beijing amidst the ongoing trade war, however, Huawei is not the only operator to have access to set up 5G networks in the country as the government will prefer competition to avoid cyber threats.
