According to a detailed account by US President Donald Trump, US intelligence officials were able to "scope out" Baghdadi's exact location about two weeks ago. On Saturday, Trump along with Vice President Mike Pence, Defence Secretary Mark Esper, national security adviser Robert O'Brien, and other intelligence officials watched the raid live in the White House Situation Room. US military personnel and military dogs lifted-off from an unidentified military base in the Middle East, and on approaching Baghdadi's compound, came under gunfire. US forces quickly cleared the compound removing eleven children and capturing several other Islamic State fighters. Baghdadi fled into a tunnel, dragging three of his young children with him. US forces called for his surrender but he refused. Chased by the dogs, Baghdadi - ignited his suicide vest, 'whimpering and crying' killing himself and his children, causing the tunnel to collapse. US forces used a DNA test onsite to confirm his identity from his mutilated remains.
