Finance Minister Nirmala&nbsp;Sitharaman&nbsp;in her budget speech said that under the new tax regime those earning between Rs 5 lakh to 7.5 lakh&nbsp;per year&nbsp;will have to pay 10% tax compared to 20% earlier.&nbsp;
Those earning between Rs 7.5 lakh and 10 lakh&nbsp;will be taxed at 15%.&nbsp;For earnings between Rs 10 lakh to 12.5 lakh, the tax rates have been slashed to 20% tax from existing 30% and for earnings between Rs 12.5 lakh&nbsp;to 15 lakhs&nbsp;the tax&nbsp;rate will be 25%. Those earning Rs 15 lakhs&nbsp;will continue to pay 30% income tax.
But there's a catch, the new tax rates are however optional, a taxpayer will have to forego&nbsp;exemptions availed under the current tax regime if they opt for reduced tax rates.&nbsp;

This is a good time to apply for a home loan as India's top lenders, State Bank of India (SBI), Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC have reduced the interest on home loan rates. Housing Development Finance Corporation on Wednesday reduced home loans interest rates by 5 basis points to 6.75%. The changes will be effective from 4 March, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Last week, State Bank of India and Kotak Mahindra Bank also reduced the interest rates on home loans for 6.70% and 6.65 per cent till 31 March. The lenders are also giving 100% waiver on processing fees. The interest concession is based on the loan amount and CIBIL score of the borrower.&nbsp;
