Indians will reduce alcohol, cigarette spending post lockdown: survey

Apr 30, 2020 16:56 IST

A Nielsen survey has found that more than 42% of Indian consumers will reduce their expenditure on alcohol and tobacco products to cut discretionary spending in the coming months. The Economic Times has reported that there were no sales in these two categories in April in the white channel due to government bans. The survey found that while an initial surge is expected, it will not be sufficient to make up for lost sales. Euromonitor has also predicted a 10% global decline in cigarette sales volume in 2020 due to Covid-19.
