The US hit a tragic milestone as the country stared at 500,000 coronavirus deaths. President Joe Biden ordered flags on all US federal buildings to be lowered to half mast in commemoration of the half million mark in the country's death count from Covid-19, the White House said. Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters the gesture would last five days. 500 candles were lit on the South Portico of the White House where President Biden led a moment's silence and was accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
'Today we mark a truly grim heartbreaking milestone,' Biden said, as he spoke of the extra-ordinary lives lost.
