The state government has accorded sanction to conversion of 200 bedded maternity and 300 bedded pediatrics hospital at Bemina into a 500 bedded pediatric hospital. The 70-Cr project will improve the existing tertiary healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, the hospital will reduce patient rush at GB Pant.

A Special Court in Pathankot Monday awarded life imprisonment to three out of the six convicted for the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu’s Kathua district last year.

Canine terror continues to terrorize the people of Kashmir valley as 6000 dog bite cases were registered in last one year from across the Kashmir at the SMHS hospital.

As per the official data provided by the hospital around 800 elderly and 700 children are among the 6000 fresh cases of dog bite that were reported in the hospital from April 2018 to March 2019.

“Among them more than 4500 cases are from Srinagar city alone,” reveals the data.

700 children under the age group of 10 years and around 800 elderly people above 60 years of age were bitten by dogs in last one year, read the data. Besides, 750 cases of adolescents were also reported in the hospital during the period.

In the first two months of 2019, more than 900 cases of dog bites were reported in the hospital.

Srinagar city has turned shabby as the walls of various public and private buildings are defaced with utter disregard to aesthetics or the law prohibiting the same.In a move to curb this disfigurement, Srinagar Municipal Corporation has issued fresh instructions to everyone warning against defacing the city or illegally using the spaces for advertising.In almost every area of the city, walls along the roads and buildings are defaced with graffiti or posters pasted without any authorization.Majority of them advertising coaching centres, the posters are seen on walls, lampposts, and flyover pillars giving the overall ambience a shabby look.
Besides, several promotional hoardings are erected on electricity poles and roadside walls.

The premises of several government offices and hospitals in summer capital Srinagar have been turned into junkyards as the administration has failed to auction the discarded items for the past many years.Faulty and obsolete items including office furniture and medical equipment have been left to corrode in the open at SMHS hospital, Dental College and Hospital, and the Old Secretariat Complex .

Rainfall on Thursday brought relief to people from the sweltering heat. But at the same time, it again exposed the city drainage mechanism. Most roads and lanes of Srinagar were filled with ankle-deep water as the drainage system gave up after an hour of rainfall. In Lal Chowk and Residency road, people were seen walking in water.

River Jehlum has turned into a sewer for Srinagar. Most drains empty into this water-body that flows through Kashmir. The water is polluted to the extent that people are not even ready to bath in it. Once used to drink and ablute, the water in Jhelum is full of slit and trash. Besides sewage, plastic pollution is also heavily impacting this prized water body.
