A first-of-its kind survey, conducted between January and December of 2019 answers questions about what a typical 24-hour day looks like in an Indian's life. The main aim of the survey conducted by the National Statistical office was to assess the paid and unpaid activities both in rural and urban areas.
The results will help in policy assessment across various departments. The survey showed that in rural areas, males aged 6 years and older, spent an average of 9.23 hours sleeping and "related activities”. While females spent a little longer, that is 9.28 hours sleeping. In urban areas, males spent 8.9 hours in sleep and females spent 9.2 hours sleeping and in other related activities.
