Government’s Corona Kavach app tracks pandemic spread

Mar 27, 2020 18:09 IST

The Indian government has launched a new app to help users check if they have been in close contact with people infected with the coronavirus. The Corona Kavach app, which has been developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), is currently available in beta on Google Play Store. The Corona Kavach app requires the user’s phone number to create an account and permission to access location and storage. This might flag privacy concerns, but the app promises to keep users “anonymous to the government, server, or any other third party program”.
