Got a Sunburn? Make sure you avoid doing these things!

Jun 13, 2021 11:32 IST | By Editorji News Desk

With the sun out and the temperatures soaring over 30 degrees, sunburns become an inevitable part of life. They occur when a part of your unprotected skin gets exposed to the sun.

They can be painful, itchy and harmful to your skin health. The irritated skin eventually peels off and heals but it can take a while to reach there. Although one might feel tempted to remove the flakes on their own, analysts suggest that it is that one thing you must avoid no matter what.

According to the NHS, UK you must avoid popping blisters and scratching or peeling your skin. People are advised not to wear tight-fitting clothes over their sunburnt skin. Instead, it is suggested that you cool your skin with a cold shower, drink plenty of water and cover your sunburnt skin from direct sunlight until the skin has healed entirely. In order to aid skin recovery, one can use aftersun cream or spray but do not use petroleum-based or oil-based creams. For pain relief, you can pop a pain killer, only on the recommendation of your doctor.

However, the NHS suggests that you must contact a doctor in case, the skin is blistered or swollen, your temperature is very high, you feel very tired, or you have muscle cramps or headaches.

Severe sunburns can lead to heat strokes and heat exhaustion, so please do not take them lightly.
