Marking 172 years of the legendary painter and artist Raja Ravi Varma on the 29th of April, Google launched a digital retrospective of his paintings on its Arts and Culture website. It features more than 700 images of his paintings, sketches and even some rare photographs. The images offer a rich insight into the life of the artist, who's work was a fusion of European techniques with an Indian sensibility. The prolific artist was born in a royal family in Kilimanoor in Kerala. He was known for making affordable lithographs of his paintings available to the public. He was also bestowed with the Kaiser-i-Hind Gold Medal by the British colonial government in 1904.
