Goa's fishing industry hit hard amid Covid-19 lockdown

Apr 29, 2020 11:00 IST

Goa's fishing season has been hit hard by the Covid-19 lockdown as well as seven storms between August and November last year that engulfed the region and stalled fishing activities. Fishing activities continued till January, but the lockdown seems to have made matters worse. With only a month a hand, as boats close on the 31st of May, the Goa Boat Owners Association has demanded certain compensation from the government to minimise the financial losses that the industry has suffered. The fish from Goa is transported to Kerala but as markets remain shut, there have been no buyers this time around.
