Global lobbying groups urge India to delay the new digital tax

Apr 29, 2020 21:20 IST

Nine lobbying groups, including the US Chamber of Commerce, have reportedly urged India to delay a new digital tax that will hit firms such as Facebook and Google battling the Covid-19 fallout. From April 1, the Centre will impose a 2 per cent equalisation levy for any sale of goods or services by a “non-resident” e-commerce operator in India. The tax also applies to any sale of advertisements or data to a foreign entity that targets or is collected from an Indian resident.
