The global death count from Covid-19 crossed the 1 million-mark on Sunday. According to an AFP tally, the virus has claimed 10 lakh lives and has infected over 3.3 crore worldwide in less than a year since it emerged in China and swept the world. The United States has the highest death count with more than 200,000 fatalities followed by Brazil, India, Mexico and Britain. Nine vaccine candidates are in last-stage clinical trials, with hopes some will be rolled out next year though questions remain about how and when they will be distributed around the world.
