An artist from Germany, Gabriele Oelschlager, is a frequent visitor to the coastal town of Kovalam in Kerala since the last 25 years. While taking a casual stroll alongside the Hawa beach, Oelschlager makes it a point to collect waste items that have washed ashore. She then transforms them into works of art. She transforms everything from plastic bottles to fishing boats and containers into decorative pieces. To end garbage woes at the beach, she aims to set up a comprehensive waste treatment plan. She hopes this would make Kovalam a model beach both in India and across the globe.
