A total number of 693 new positive cases have been reported in last 24 hours, while 291 people who had contracted the disease have recovered, the health ministry said in its daily press briefing on Monday. The Health Ministry also threw up some interesting facts on the gender and age-wise distribution of cases. 76% of Covid-19 cases were reported in men and 24% in women. As per age, 47% cases were seen in people who are less than 40 years, while 37% was seen in people between the age of 40-60 years. 19% cases were seen in people who are 60 years and above. In terms of mortality rates, 73% of Covid-19 deaths were seen in men, and 23% in women. 63% deaths were people who are 60 years & above, 30% in people between 40-60 years of age, and 7% deaths seen in people below 40 years. Co-morbidities and underlying illnesses like diabetes, heart disease and hypertension also have a role to play. 86% deaths were seen in people with co-morbidities, which implies that there is a higher risk associated with elderly people who test positive. However, young people with co-morbidities are also significantly at risk.
