As football associations strive to resume football leagues and tournaments across the world, FIFA is worried about the player workloads. If the current season resumes then there potentially lies no break before the start of the next season and football's governing body is aware of that. To prevent overloading the players, FIFA will now allow up to 5 substitutes in every game instead of the usual 3. The proposal will also see the 6th substitute if the match goes to extra time. This is a temporary proposal and is aimed to reduce the congestion when the sport returns after the pandemic.
