Faulty ammo killed 27 jawans in 6 years: Army report

Sep 30, 2020 08:07 IST

The Army has flagged concerns about faulty ammunition and armament supplied by the Ordnance Factory Board causing army casualties and bleeding the exchequer, the Hindustan Times has reported. An internal army assessment shows that 403 accidents over the last six years have resulted in the deaths of 27 soldiers and a loss of Rs 960 crore. The army report has further stated that some friendly foreign countries had even refused to accept OFB products on the grounds of quality. The Army has suggested corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board as the only way forward, the report added.
