The US Senate on Tuesday confirmed Antony Blinken as the 71st secretary of state. Blinken, a long-time Biden associate was voted 78-22 by the Senators. He will be succeeding Mike Pompeo. Blinken took the oath of office on a copy of the US Constitution at the State Department by Carol Perez, a career diplomat who is serving as acting under-secretary for management. During his confirmation hearing last week, Blinken had advocated the strong relationship with India, saying that the India-US relationship enjoys bipartisan support.
