Facebook is offering a $100 million support to news organisations hit by the coronavirus pandemic, citing the need for reliable information about the crisis. The social network giant said that the funding includes $25 million in emergency grants for local news through the Facebook Journalism Project, and $75 million for additional marketing efforts to “publishers most in need in the hardest hit countries”. This comes after concerns surrounding cutbacks and closures of news organisations impacted by lockdowns and a massive slump in advertising because of the health crisis.
