‘Even as we grieved, we grew’: How Amanda Gorman scripted history

Jan 21, 2021 10:40 IST

22-year-old American poet Amanda Gorman's stint at the US Inauguration Day ceremony become one of the most talked about moments.

The literary star recited a poem she wrote, called 'The Hill We Climb' after Harris and Biden were sworn in and scripted history by becoming the youngest poet to recite at a presidential inauguration.

It took no time for the Los Angeles based poet, who became the country's first National Youth Poet Laureate in 2017, to trend on social media. Gorman wore a caged bird ring, which was a gift from Oprah Winfrey, and a tribute to Maya Angelou's classic memoir "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings".
