England falter yet again, India in the drivers' seat

Mar 04, 2021 17:59 IST | By PTI

Yet another Test and once again England were caught in a web of spin in Ahmedabad. Joe Root's decision to bat first looked to be the right call before their top order failed and the visitors were reduced to 30/3.

Ben Stokes tried to steady the ship with a half-century but his innings was too cut short on 55. Axar picked 4 wickets and Ashwin bagged 3 as England were bowled out for 205 in the 1st innings.

India had a shaky response as Shubman Gill was dismissed for a duck. Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara looked comfortable though as the hosts ended opening day at 24/1, trailing England by 181 runs.
