Rising edible oil prices have set off alarm bells in the government. The Times of India has reported that the average prices of edible oils such as groundnut, mustard, vanaspati, soybean, sunflower and palm have increased by up to 20-30% in the last one year. The report added that this was flagged at a presentation before a Group of Ministers headed by home minister Amit Shah early this week. The average price of mustard oil was 120 per litre on Thursday compared to 100 a year back, the report stated quoting the data accessed from the consumer affairs ministry. Similarly, soya bean oil price is up to ₹110 a litre from ₹90 last year.
