Eating poor quality carbs regularly linked to heart attack risk: study

Feb 26, 2021 13:48 IST | By Editorji News Desk

Consuming a diet high in poor quality carbohydrates has many ill effects ranging from a higher risk of heart attacks to strokes, and even death finds a new study.

The global study discovered that higher risks of a diet high in poor quality carbs, called a high glycemic diet, were similar in both people who had previous cardiovascular disease and people who did not. White bread, rice, and potatoes have a high glycemic index.

In contrast, diets rich in high-quality carbohydrates such as fruit, vegetables, and legumes have beneficial effects, researchers noted publishing their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine.
