E-commerce giants request govt to allow sale of non-essential goods

May 02, 2020 20:40 IST

According to reports, e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon have requested the Indian government to relax the ban on the sale of non-essential goods amid the nationwide lockdown to control the spread of Covid-19. With platforms limited to the sale of only essential goods ever since March 25, it's being reported that people are unable to access items such as mobile phone or other electronic goods essential to working from home, among other things. Flipkart said in a statement that e-commerce could help out in these times of social distancing with safe and secure deliveries, and help small businesses relieve their inventory.
