Dutch artist's 'Urban Sun' installation hopes to make public spaces safe again amid Covid-19

Mar 06, 2021 15:50 IST | By Editorji News Desk

Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde has created an installation called the 'Urban Sun' that seeks to reduce the amount of coronavirus in the air in public spaces. The structure makes use of ultraviolet light to reduce the risk of transmission, though the artist clarifies that it is no replacement to government rules or the vaccine. In the structure, an artificial sun is suspended above open areas with a UVC lamp under it, that seems to create a halo to disinfect everything within its reach, according to Studio Roosegaarde. The artist hopes his design will be installed in more public spaces so social interaction can become safe again.
