The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed the central government during the hearing on the plea seeking interest waiver for the moratorium on loans announced by the RBI. "This happened because you locked down the entire country," the apex court said to the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta while asking the government to clarify its stand on the waiver of interest and waiver of interest on the interest. The top court also asked the government to not hide behind the RBI. This is not the time to think about business only, the Supreme court said. In the last hearing, the top court had said that there is no merit in charging interest on interest for deferred loan payment instalments during the moratorium period. The matter will be heard next on September 1.
