Dogs can sniff out Covid-19 infection, German study finds

Jul 24, 2020 20:09 IST

New research from the German veterinary university claims that dogs are capable of identifying people infected with the new coronavirus. A University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover study involving eight dogs, who were trained for just one week, found that dogs were able to sniff out Covid-19 with a 94 per cent accuracy. The dogs were positioned to randomly sniff the saliva of more than 1,000 healthy and infected people, says a Bloomberg report. With their acute sense of smell, dogs could be used in places such as airports, border crossings and sporting events to detect infections, after proper training.
