Devotees in different parts of India celebrated Makar Sankranti with a holy dip. The festival marks the transition between two seasons and celebrates the arrival of Spring with warmer and longer days. People gathered in Prayagraj to take a holy dip at the Sangam Ghat. Amidst the biting cold and thick fog, large crowds gathered on the banks of the river Ganga in Varanasi for the ritual. In Kolkata too, large number of people flocked to Babughat to participate in the rituals and take a holy dip.
