Nov 19, 2020 14:51 IST

As a part of an animal exchange programme, the Delhi Zoo got a Royal Bengal tigress from Kanpur Zoo for the purpose of conservation. Barkha, the 6 year old tigress will now form a pair with Karan, who is almost the same age. The Conservation Breeding Programme seeks to conserve species by preventing a decline in their population. The zoo is currently home to 88 species and hopes to increase this number to 100 by the end of the year, according to Director Ramesh Pandey.
