Delhi violence: relative calm returns

Feb 29, 2020 12:47 IST

Areas of Northeast Delhi gripped by clashes, were relatively peaceful on Saturday. The ban on large gatherings in the violence hit areas is still on. Authorities have said traffic has returned to normal, however many shops are still closed. Rapid Action forces have been posted at strategic places, along with the police and the CRPF. The Home ministry has said the Municipal Corporation has removed most of the debris from public places, and several cranes are working to remove burnt cars and roadblocks. The worst affected areas, however, have seen most residents leaving. Forty two people have died in the violence that began last Sunday. The police said over 600 people have been detained in relation to the violence.
