Govt's fiscal deficit hits 52% of full year target

Jul 01, 2019 14:55 IST

The government's fiscal deficit has touched 52 percent of the budget estimate for the full year in the first two months of 2019-20. In the Interim Budget passed in February, the government had estimated the fiscal deficit at Rs 7.03 lakh crore for 2019-20. Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs said the March-quarter current account deficit hitting an eight-quarter low has been led by trade deficit improvement. Morgan Stanley says the balance of payments is now likely to be in surplus in the first quarter of FY20.
