Ruling out a complete lockdown, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said his government will impose Section 144 for 15 days from Wednesday, which he called a Janata Curfew.
The state, which is grappling with a fresh Covid-19 wave, already has a weekend lockdown in place besides daily night curfews.
The Janata Curfew will be imposed from 8 pm on Wednesday.
Asking people not to undertake 'unnecessary travel', the CM said only essential services will function from 7am to 8pm. Local train and bus services for will operate for only essential services.
He said hotels and restaurants will remain closed and only take-away, home deliveries will be allowed.
Petrol pumps, financial institutions associated with SEBI and construction work to will continue.
