Delhi: ban on stocking, sale & bursting firecrackers during Diwali

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that the ban on sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that his government has imposed a ban on the storage, sale and use of firecrackers during Diwali this year as well. Kejriwal tweeted to say that a complete ban is being imposed considering the dangerous levels of pollution during Diwali over the last three years.

In 2020, the government had imposed a blanket ban on firecrackers, including those that were considered ‘green’, between November 7 and November 30.

Kejriwal said in his tweet  went on to say in his tweet that a delayed imposition of the complete ban on firecrackers last year had caused losses for traders who had stocked up. He went on to request traders not to stock up on firecrackers this year.

Diwalis will be celebrated in the first week of November this year. In recent years air pollution has been at its worst in winter months on account of excessive use of firecrackers and burning of stubble by farmers in neighbouring states.
