Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said talks were on with China at military and diplomatic levels, over the stand off between the two countries at four positions along the Line of Actual Control. This is the first statement on the issue by a senior central minister. In an interview with news channel Aaj Tak, Singh further clarified that mediation from the United States was not needed, as both countries had required mechanisms to resolve the matter at hand. Earlier this week, US President Trump had offered to mediate between the two neighbours. The foreign ministries of both nations had rejected the offer.
