Critically ill Covid+ patients could suffer from delirium: study

May 19, 2020 17:21 IST

A Lancet study has found that delirium and a state of confusion could be common among patients seriously ill with Covid-19. Researches based in UK and Italy looked at 3,550 coronavirus cases and found that mental health troubles like confusion and agitation were common in more than 60% of virus patients in intensive care. Researchers are particularly concerned that this could suggest a future trend towards post-traumatic stress disorder as studies show that 33% of Sars and Mers virus survivors faced PTSD two years after recovering from their physical illness. Despite their findings, the authors of the study say that more research needs to be conducted to analyse the impact of Covid-19 on mental health.
