At least 11 Indians have died of coronavirus infection in the United States with another 16 testing positive. Covid-19 infection has claimed more than 14,000 lives and afflicted more than four lakh people in the US. All Indian citizens who have died due to the deadly infection in the US are male. Ten of them are from New York and New Jersey area while four of them are said to be taxi drivers in New York City.

About 40 crore workers in India working in the informal economy are at risk of falling deeper into poverty during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The International Labour Organisation has said in a report on Wednesday that the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting 2.7 billion workers globally due to lockdowns, IANS has reported. In India almost 90% of people work in the informal economy. Without appropriate policy measures, workers face a high risk of falling into poverty, the report said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has&nbsp;told an all-party meet that&nbsp;that by all accounts, it will not be possible to end the lockdown on April 14.&nbsp;BJD's Pinaki Misra who attended the meet via video told news agency PTI that the Prime Minister made it clear&nbsp;that lockdown will not be lifted in one go on April 14. The Centre is deliberating on keeping farmers and farming outside the purview of the lockdown amid demands for the shutdown extension,&nbsp;IANS reported quoting&nbsp;government&nbsp;sources. The&nbsp;news agency said&nbsp;Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will hold discussions with states' agriculture ministers through video conferencing on Wednesday.&nbsp;With 70 per cent of rural households dependent primarily on agriculture for their livelihood and about 83.3 crore people living in rural areas, Tomar's response is extremely crucial at a time when the farmers are confined to their homes even as their harvest is left unattended.

With Covid-19 cases showing no signs of abating in India, the Supreme Court Wednesday said tests relating to novel coronavirus whether in approved government laboratories or approved private laboratories shall be free of cost.&nbsp;While coronavirus tests are already free at government hospitals, private labs cannot be allowed to charge up to Rs 4,500 for the test, the top court ruled in response to a Public Interest Litigation or PIL.&nbsp;Justices Ashok Bhushan and S Ravindra Bhat said in a hearing conducted via video conferencing that whether the private labs should be reimbursed by the government, will be decided later.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Covid-19 hotspots in 15 Uttar Pradesh&nbsp;districts&nbsp;will be completely shut down till April 15&nbsp;to contain the spread of the coronavirus infection.&nbsp;Stringent restrictions will come into effect at midnight in these pockets which according to the Union health ministry have reported 326 Covid-19 cases and three deaths till Wednesday morning.&nbsp;Gautam&nbsp;Budh&nbsp;Nagar, which houses Noida, and Ghaziabad are among the 15 districts. Other districts include Lucknow, Meerut, Agra and Varanasi.&nbsp;Officials said all these 15 districts have six or more cases each. Some reports said only home delivery of essentials and medicines will be allowed.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has said that at least 20 Covid-19 hotspots in the national capital have been sealed to contain the deadly coronavirus. Sisodia said no one will be allowed to enter or exit the areas and government will ensure delivery of essential items.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As 15 distrcits of Uttar Pradesh will be sealed till April 15th, the govt has said that they will soon pass an order that anyone stepping out of their house will have to cover their face with a mask or cloth. Around 30 healthcare workers including doctors, nurses and technicians at the Cardio-Neuro Centre in AIIMS have been advised to undergo quarantine after a 72-year-old man who visited the facility with neurological problem tested positive for Covid-19.&nbsp;The patient had reported to the emergency with brain stroke symptoms around two days back and was immediately shifted to the Neurology ward N-S5 for evaluation and treatment, PTI reported. Once admitted, the patient&nbsp;was subjected to radiological investigations like CT and MRI and was kept in a cubicle with other patients. He later complained of chest and respiratory distress.&nbsp;There was some suspicion over his respiratory problems and his sample was taken and sent for testing which came out positive for Covid-19.&nbsp;

Six Covid-19 patients died in&nbsp;Pune since Tuesday night, taking the&nbsp;the&nbsp;death toll in&nbsp;the&nbsp;Maharashtra&nbsp;district to 14.&nbsp;Four patients died at the Sassoon General&nbsp;Hospital,&nbsp;and one each at Naidu Hospital and Nobel Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;All six had co-morbidity.&nbsp;

The Supreme Court Wednesday directed civil rights activists Gautam Navlakha and Anand Teltumbde to surrender to jail authorities within a week in the Bhima Koregaon violence case.
