The govt has extended the suspension of fights to and from the United Kingdom till January 7, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Wednesday. The govt had barred UK flights till December 31 earlier in the wake of the new and more infectious Covid strain that was detected in the UK. A number of countries have suspended UK flights amid the new mutant strain scare. India has been testing everyone arriving from the UK between November 25 and December 23 when the flights were stopped.

The court had earlier asked the&nbsp;Haryana&nbsp;govt&nbsp;to explain the complaint filed against&nbsp;Kaur. Her case gained international focus after US vice president Kamala Harris' niece Meena Harris tweeted about it.

Amid a spike in new Covid-19 infections in the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday issued an order to extend the existing guidelines for surveillance, containment, and caution to remain in force up to March 31.
The govt said, while there has been a substantial decline in the active and new Covid-19 cases, there is a need to maintain surveillance, containment. States/UTs have been advised to speed up the vaccination of the target population.
The MHA order said, containment zones have will be continued to be demarcated carefully, containment measures have to be strictly followed; Covid-appropriate behaviour has to be promoted and strictly enforced, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) must be followed scrupulously.

The GDP had expanded by 3.3% in the corresponding period of 2019-20, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
In its second advance estimates of national accounts, the NSO has projected an 8% contraction in 2020-21. In its first advance estimates released in January, it had projected a contraction of 7.7% for the current fiscal as against a growth of 4% cent in 2019-20.
The economy had shrunk by an unprecedented 24.4% in the first quarter this fiscal following the coronavirus pandemic and resultant lockdowns. In the second quarter, the GDP declined 7.3% due to a perk up in economic activities.

Justifying the move, Palaniswami said the economy was yet to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and this would help the poor redeem the gold they had pledged during the lockdown.
The gold loan schemes with low-interest rates were offered by the Tamil Nadu State Apex Co-operative bank as part of Covid relief measures. The interest rate has been fixed at 6% a year. In this, people could get ₹25,000 to ₹1,00,000 and the loan has to be returned in three months.

In a series of tweets, Mamata said, wages have been increased to ₹202 per day from ₹144 earlier for unskilled labourers, while the hike for semi-skilled labourers has been revised to ₹303 from ₹172 earlier. A new category has been introduced for skilled labour, whose wage has been fixed at ₹404 per day.
Mamata Banerjee said a total of 56,500 workers in Bengal will benefit from the move. She added that these wages are in parity with rural workers&rsquo; enhanced pay (MNREGA unskilled &amp; semi-skilled). Budget provision for this step has been made available for both FY21 &amp; FY22.

Quoting Chowdhury, the report said, he has informed about the poor leadership at the district level to Mamata Banerjee as well. Chowdhury reportedly said he is a &ldquo;bhumiputra&rdquo; of Burdwan and cannot be a mute spectator if the district lags behind on the path of development due to poor leadership.
