Bombay HC clears way for Netflix series Betaal's release

May 23, 2020 14:30 IST

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a copyright infringement plea against Netflix and Red Chillies Entertainment seeking to hold their horror series Betaal’s May 24 worldwide release. The move comes after Marathi screenwriters Sameer Wadekar and Mahesh Gosawi accused 'Betaal' makers for lifting the plot of their Marathi zombie film, 'Vetaal'. Meanwhile, 'Betaal' co-producer Red Chillies Entertainment opposed the plea and stated in its response that 'Betaal' can by no stretch of imagination be termed as adaptation and that there was no similarity either in the concept, narration, arrangement, characters, properties as alleged.
