With crippling health infrastructure and the high demand for oxygen cylinders in the country, India's coronavirus situation is getting worse by the hour.
Several states reported a record high in the daily number of new infections on Wednesday. Delhi recorded its highest spike in infections as well as deaths with 28,395 new cases and 277 fresh fatalities due to Covid-19.
Karnataka reported the biggest single-day spike of 23,558 new Covid-19 cases with 116 fatalities, meanwhile, West Bengal reported 10,784 cases with 58 fatalities.
Uttar Pradesh recorded 33,214 fresh cases and 187 fatalities, both the highest daily rise so far, whereas with 14,622 new cases Rajasthan registered a record daily rise for the sixth straight day.
Madhya Pradesh recorded 13,107 new Covid-19 cases, its highest one-day rise since the pandemic began.
Uttarakhand too recorded its highest single-day surge with 4,807 cases. The union territory of Jammu and Kashmir also set the grim Covid record with 2,204 cases.
Maharashtra recorded 67,468 new cases with 568 fatalities, the highest ever single-day spike in the death count.
