Covid-19: Bangladesh receives 5 million doses of vaccine

Jan 25, 2021 22:14 IST

Bangladesh on Monday received the consignment of 5 million doses of Covishiled vaccines from India under a procurement agreement. Four days ago, India handed over 2 million doses of Covishield to Bangladesh under grant assistance.
A special Air India flight carrying the Oxford-AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine co-manufactured by Serum Institute of India reached the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The vaccine will be stored at a warehouse of private Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. ahead of their planned countrywide distribution, which starts with jabs to frontline workers first.
Bangladesh plans to buy 30 million doses from the Serum Institute of India in phases, under a three-way agreement.
