Covid-19: Australia's international border closure extended for another three months

Mar 03, 2021 12:41 IST | By Editorji News Desk

Australia's international borders will remain close for at least another three months till mid-June, continuing the country's self-imposed isolation to keep the coronavirus outbreak in control.
On Tuesday evening, Health Minister Greg Hunt announced the extension of the "human biosecurity emergency period" which bars travellers from entering Australia and stops citizens from leaving without an exemption. The decision comes after health officials advised the government about the Covid-19 situation overseas, including the emergence of more highly transmissible variants.
Previously, Australia closed its international border early in the pandemic and it was scheduled to end on March 17, but has now been extended to June 17.
