Concerns over new 'menopause delay' procedure

Jan 29, 2020 17:02 IST

Birmingham-based company ProFam has created a procedure that could delay the onset of menopause in women. The procedure involves "surgical removal of a small portion of one of the ovaries", which is then formed into tiny strips and frozen. It can later be grafted back into the body and placed in a part where there is good blood supply to slow down menopause. However medical experts have raised concerns over the procedure, saying that healthy women undergoing the procedure may be putting themselves under unnecessary risks. A leading IVF expert behind the procedure admits that the procedure is still in its "experimental" phase.
