CITES steps up protection of endangered animals

Aug 29, 2019 15:56 IST

Wildlife experts from across the world came together to announce new measures to protect endangered species on Wednesday at the conclusion of the CITES conference. New protections were finalised for towering giraffes, bottom-feeding sharks and other species. The aim is to ensure that International trade does not threaten the survival of endangered plants and animals. New inclusions to the CITES list include 18 more shark species, giraffes as well as the saiga antelope along with a large number of reptiles who have previously been trafficked for trade.
