US govt to Big Tech: ensure platforms aren't used to 'incite violence'

Jun 28, 2020 21:54 IST

A letter from the US Department of Homeland Security has reportedly been sent to the heads of five large tech firms, asking them to make sure their platforms are not used to incite violence in the country. The letter comes in the wake of nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Google and Snapchat have been asked to ensure their platforms are not used "as a tool to organise, facilitate, or incite dangerous or deadly riots".
