The Central Board of Direct Taxes or CBDT on Thursday raised alarm, asking the Income Tax department to take 'all possible action urgently' as the stipulated tax collection target was short by 15%. The government had pegged the total direct tax collection target at ₹12 lakh crore, but has till date managed to mop up only ₹10 lakh crore.
