Canada’s Sikh community cancels festivities due to surge in Covid cases

Apr 12, 2021 13:52 IST | By Editorji News Desk

A fresh resurgence of cases in Canada has forced Canada's Sikh community to cancel the events to mark Vaisakhi, as well as the traditional Khalsa Day celebrations.

Kultar Singh Gill, chair of the Ontario Sikh and Gurdwara Council (OSGC), said that there is no question of organising the annual Khalsa Day parade in Toronto as it will attract thousands of participants.

Further, gurdwaras are expected to hold events virtually as provincial rules permit 15% in-person capacity at indoor events.

Canada has imposed a fresh set of restrictions in order to contain the fresh Covid cases.
